The manga and the anime Dragon Ball Super tell the same big crises until the Tournament of Power, but are not two copies. They develop in parallel common plots with different fights, transformations, rules and intermediate outcomes. The anime readapts at length Battle of Gods and The Resurrection of “F”, while the manga condenses or bypasses them. After the Tournament of Power, the manga continues with Moro, Granola then an extended version of SUPERHERO. The films Broly and SUPERHERO also occupy an important place. Two parallel adaptations develop a common general framework
The anime Dragon Ball Super began its distribution in July 2015. The manga drawn by Toyotarou began its publication shortly before that same year. The manga is therefore not years in advance like Toriyama's original work at the start of the anime Dragon Ball.
Teams receive narrative foundations associated with Akira Toriyama, then develop transitions, fights and dialogues according to the needs of their support. A twenty-minute episode and a monthly chapter have neither the same space nor the same rhythm. The choices diverge quickly.
This method explains why the major destinations match: Beerus meets Goku, Champa organizes a tournament, Zamasu steals a body, Zen'ô launches the Tournament of Power. The precise mechanisms, the participants still present or the order of the transformations can however change.

The anime readapts two films, the manga accelerates towards the new arcs
The first episodes of the anime reconstruct the events of Battle of Gods. Beerus wakes up, searches for the Super Saiyan God, attends Bulma's birthday and fights Goku. The anime adds scenes and changes the rhythm or certain lines of the film.
The manga condenses this encounter much more strongly. It establishes the arrival of Beerus, the ritual and the new divine scale, then moves forward quickly. The ritual itself is detailed in our article on the six Saiyans.
The anime then continues with a rehabilitation of The Resurrection of “F” : return of Frieza, training of Goku and Vegeta, invasion of Earth and fight in Super Saiyan Blue. The main manga does not offer this same complete arc between its Beerus and Universe 6 chapters.
This difference creates two rhythms from the start. The viewer sees the heroes gradually learn from Whis before facing Frieza. The reader joins the Champa tournament more quickly, with certain events in the film considered to have already occurred.

The Son Goku collection allows you to compare the red and blue steps. Their general order remains stable, but the time spent explaining them varies greatly.
Universe 6 arc shares teams, but not all power rules
Champa and Beerus organize a tournament between their universes. Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Monaka mainly represent Universe 7 after Buu failed the written exam. Facing them are Botamo, Frost, Magetta, Cabba and Hit.
The general order of the duels remains recognizable, but their resolution changes. The properties of certain techniques, the limits of Super Saiyan Blue, and the way Goku faces Hit are not identical. The manga particularly emphasizes the expense linked to successive transformations and energy saving choices.
The anime gives Goku Super Saiyan Blue combined with Kaioken to overcome Hit's time jump. This combination is not used in the same way in the manga. Automatically using the Blue Kaioken to explain the paper version would produce a contradiction.
Hit himself adapts his time jump in both stories, but the rules and countermeasures don't follow exactly the same steps. Articles devoted to the character must therefore specify their support instead of creating a single technique from both.
The result of the tournament and the discovery of a universe populated by Saiyans remain common points. Vegeta becomes a master figure for Cabba and promises to visit the planet Sadala, although the relationship develops with different nuances.
The Vegeta collection illustrates this emotional continuity: in both formats, the prince encourages Cabba to exceed his limits while protecting his Saiyan pride.
The Future Trunks Arc Arrives at the Same Disaster Through Different Fights
Trunks returns from a future ravaged by Goku Black. The identity of the enemy, the role of Zamasu, the use of the Super Dragon Balls and the fusion of the antagonists form the same core. The future ends up erased by Zen'ô when the threat becomes impossible to contain.
The anime develops Trunks' Super Saiyan Rage form, several time returns and a finale where the energy of the survivors participates in his attack. The manga offers other mechanisms: Goku and Vegeta improve the Blue differently, Trunks has healing abilities linked to his training with the Kaioshin, and certain clashes change order.

The manga also gives Goku an attempt to use the Hakai against Fused Zamasu, an action absent in this form in the anime. Conversely, certain techniques and manifestations of Trunks are specific to the television adaptation.
Both conclusions remain grim. Zen'ô erases the ravaged timeline, and Trunks must return to another future where a version of him already exists. Details change, but no version simply restores its original world to the way it was before.
The product Black Goku Rosé with his scythe notably evokes a very marked energy weapon in the anime. His representation is not enough to attribute exactly the same arsenal to the Black in the manga.
The Piccolo collection recalls a difference in presence: Piccolo does not directly reach the future, but transmits the idea of Mafuba, the execution of which varies between formats.
The Tournament of Power is much more developed in the anime
Both versions bring together eight participating universes, ten fighters per team and a battle royale limited to 100 takks, or approximately 48 earth minutes. The details of this constraint are explained in our article on the duration of the tournament.
The anime devotes many episodes to recruitment, secondary universes and eliminations. It develops several forms, alliances and sacrifices. Goku triggers Ultra Instinct at different stages against Jiren, while Vegeta obtains a visual evolution of his own from Blue.
The manga condenses the battle. Kale eliminates several competitors, the Kefla fusion faces Gohan rather than Goku, and many warriors' journeys are shorter. Master Roshi also plays a special role in Goku's thinking about instinctive movement.
Jiren retains his status as the main force of Universe 11, but his personality and story are told differently. The precise stages of Ultra Instinct, Frieza's interventions and C-17's strategies are not superimposable.

The Frieza, Cell and Majin Buu collection highlights Frieza's surprising role. He helps Universe 7 in both formats, but his interventions and dialogues vary.
Transformations share names, not always their instructions for use
Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue exist in both versions. Their performance and associated strategies change. The manga emphasizes complete mastery of Blue and alternation with the red form to save energy.
The anime uses Goku's Blue Kaioken against Hit and then during the Tournament of Power. The manga does not follow this progression in the same way. To say that manga Goku mastered exactly this combination at this point would be importing an ability from the anime.
Vegeta achieves a blue evolution in the anime often called Blue Evolution. The manga gives it a visually and tactically different progression before developing, in the Granola arc, the Ultra Ego. This last form remains linked to the paper route as long as a corresponding animated adaptation has not staged it.
Ultra Instinct exists in both formats, but its triggering, its levels and the lessons Goku learns from it diverge. The anime highlights the shock of the Genkidama then the clashes against Jiren; the manga further connects learning to accumulated martial experience and divine guidance.
These differences do not make it possible to create a composite Goku having all the best demonstrations simultaneously. A power comparison must choose a version and a period.
The product Injured Super Saiyan 2 Gohan recalls a time when manga and anime followed the same source fight more directly. In Great, even Gohan's level at the tournament can be presented differently.

After 2018, the manga continues the story with Moro, Granola and SUPER HERO
The first animated series Dragon Ball Super ends after the Tournament of Power. The manga continues with the Prisoner of the Galactic Patrol arc, centering on Moro, a former criminal capable of absorbing energy from worlds and their inhabitants.

The word "canon" is often used as a classification, but it does not resolve the details. Both the anime and manga are official and have inconsistent events scene by scene. A specific answer should say “in the anime” or “in the manga”.
To quickly discover the arcs following the Tournament of Power, the manga is essential. For the voices, music, extended fights, and several TV-specific transformations, the anime brings a distinct experience.
Modern films serve as great milestones, but their articulation differs. Broly is mostly summarized in the manga, while SUPERHERO receives extensive adaptation. They should not be treated as ordinary episodes.
A good comparison therefore does not ask which version “cancels” the other. She observes how each leads her characters to the same point or towards exclusive developments. This method preserves internal consistency and makes differences interesting.
Piccolo's journey illustrates this interest: the film and the manga share Orange Piccolo, but the prelude and post-fight paper add other scenes.
